The Ely Cooperative Credit Union, now known as the Ely Area Credit Union, was organized in 1938 to serve the financial needs of the members of the Ely Coop Association and their families. Then in 1976, the state of Minnesota granted us a community charter to serve all those who live or work in the Ely school district. With this change also came a name change to what we know today as the Ely Area Credit Union. Through the years, we have had several locations, all of which were on East Chapman Street. In 2000, we moved into our beautiful new facility at, 2 East Chapman Street. Our most recent change came in 2016, when we merged in the Babbitt Steelworkers Credit Union. Though we have been through name changes and location changes and all sorts of other changes, our focus has always remained the same.
