North Main Credit Union was first chartered in December 1978 as Lumite Credit Association on the credit union principle of "people helping people." Lumite Credit Association was established to provide a convenient place for employees of the Lumite plant and their families to save and borrow. Interestingly, one of the original subscribers of Lumite Credit Association, Gay Bramlett, still serves on our board today. Credit unions are not-for-profit organizations that exist to serve their members. Like banks, credit unions accept deposits, make loans and provide a wide array of other financial services. At a credit union, though, you’re not just a customer but a “member”. Credit unions are owned and controlled by the members who use their services.
