Sonoco Credit Union was organized under a federal charter in 1941 with start-up money provided by Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville, South Carolina. In 1961, the Credit Union reorganized under a State of South Carolina charter. Until 1988, the Credit Union remained a division of Sonoco. In May 1988, the name of the credit union was changed to SPC Cooperative Credit Union. The following year, SPC began to operate independently. In 2004, SPC expanded its charter to serve anyone who lives, works or attends school in Darlington, Florence and Marlboro Counties. In March 2010, the Credit Union officially changed its name to SPC Credit Union. From an initial membership in 1941 of slightly over 100, SPC now serves more than 22,000 members throughout Darlington, Florence & Marlboro Counties. SPC remains a strong and stable financial institution with a commitment to create a rewarding experience for its member/owners and employees.
