In 1947, the Selfreliance Association of Ukrainian-Americans was established as a social services organization in New York City with a mission to assist newly-arrived Ukrainian immigrants. The Association established branches in most major cities in the United States and, in turn, these branches became sponsors of credit unions. The Philadelphia Federal Credit Union was established in 1952 with an original membership of 223 and initial deposits of $52,000. Since 1952, the Credit Union changed its name to the Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union (UKRFCU) and has grown to over $350 million in assets and over 11,000 members. UKRFCU’s main office is located in Feasterville, PA with branches located in Philadelphia and Jenkintown, PA and Trenton, NJ. With a long and successful history of dedicated community service, UKRFCU is a recipient of numerous citations from the community and recognition awards from the Pennsylvania Credit Union League. With over 65 years of service, the Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union has always been an integral part of community life in the Philadelphia area.
