Muskegon Co-op Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1949 as a co-operative credit union with a sponsoring Co-op food store. Credit union membership was open to members of the Co-op store who lived or worked in Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa and Newaygo counties. As time passed, Co-Optical Service became the main sponsor base and anyone that lived or worked in Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, or Newaygo counties could join. Members of the Credit Union are also members of Muskegon Co-operative Services, Inc., which is now our main sponsor base. In 2008 Muskegon Co-operative Services, Inc. formed a partnership with Sweetwater Local Foods Market. Through this partnership members receive benefits when they shop at the market, such as, 10% off all food purchases on 4 select Muskegon Co-op market days throughout the year.
